14 ways to easily get more daily anti-oxidants
By now everyone knows that antioxidants are incredibly beneficial to their health. Antioxidants can help prevent cancer, slow down or even reverse aging, improve immunity, increase your energy, strengthen the circulation and other systems. Given this information it’s amazing more people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. They are our primary source of antioxidants and the popular press have reported many times about the “5 a day” but for optimum health 8 to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables daily is nearer the mark.
Here are some simple steps to add more anti-oxidants to your diet.
1) Breakfast – has to be quick and easy as everyone is in a hurry. Throw some fresh or frozen fruit into blender with a little water and some seeds like flaxseeds or pumpkin seeds. Once smooth add some natural yogurt (optional) and drink immediately. Add chopped up fresh fruit to your breakfast cereals.
2) Snacks – here it is easy to eat more fruit like apples, pears or a handful of grapes all easy to take out with you for work with you or send the children to school with nectarines, grapes or raisins.
3) Lunch & dinner – potatoes don’t really count, add more vegetables in the way of stir-fries, steamed, salads or vegetable soups.
4) Dessert – the internet is filled with fruity desserts, make your own fruity ice-creams or sorbets.
5) Teas – red, green or white tea are all rich in anti-oxidants.
6) Out of sight out of mind – place a well stocked fruit bowl somewhere where every member of the family can see it and reach it.
7) Don’t boil your vegetables and then throw the water down the drain.
8) Add more herbs and spices to your food each day.
9) People who have a vegetable patch or fruit trees eat more anti-oxidant rich foods.
10) Buy new healthy cook books or watch health cooking videos or join a cooking class for more interesting ideas.
11) Thicken sauces with pureed vegetables not flour.
12) There are gadgets that cut vegetables into a spaghetti shape, use instead of spaghetti with a pesto or tomato sauce.
