You need to think about these 8 points seriously if you want to avoid osteoporosis
Heredity – I can hear you say that is something I have no control over. If you do have osteoporosis in the family then you need to follow a good lifestyles even more strictly than most. Your lifestyle could further weaken or strengthen your constitution.
Premature menopause – I am taking about the menopause before forty or the sudden onset due to surgery or cancer treatments.
Inactivity – we need to use it or we will lose it. Exercise increases bone density. Being physically fit will also increase muscle strength, which will help to maintain our co-ordination and flexibility making falling less likely.
Smoking – changes the balance of hormones, estrogen levels are lower. Also, smoking robs the body of many nutrients vital to bone health.
Alcohol and coffee – both very acid forming. It has been shown that those people who drink more than 3 cups of coffee a day have an increased of osteoporosis of 82 per cent!!! Don’t think you can drink ordinary tea. There are however more important aspects, I will explain later.
Drugs and medicine – certain drugs are known to increase bone loss, such as corticosteroids. Frequent use of laxatives and diuretics. Thyroxin for an underactive thyroid.
Weight (under) – as I have already mentioned earlier, estrogen is also produced by the adrenal glands and our fat cells. Being overweight, too much estrogen could be produced or underweight too little maybe produced.
Digestive problems – too little stomach acid interferes with absorption of calcium. This could be due to many different reasons.
